He carried the weight of a defining mistake, a 2023 DWI charge that had cost him his career as a CDL truck driver and the quiet, unshakeable belief that his story wasn’t over. He was right.
JQ didn’t come to GRIP looking for sympathy. He came looking for a fight, a chance to outwork his past and prove that one chapter doesn’t define the whole book. From his very first day, he showed up with intention. He collaborated with Goodwill staff to rebuild a résumé that told the truth about his strengths. He partnered with a Career Specialist to identify opportunities aligned with his goals. He powered through 26 modules in the Skills to Succeed Academy, sharpening his career readiness, emotional resilience and digital literacy one lesson at a time.
It wasn’t just the coursework – JQ made calls, sent applications and did the deep, honest, sometimes uncomfortable work of personal growth. He refused to wait for opportunity – he pursued it.
Then, on September 11, 2025, JQ’s phone rang. It was the facility that had let him go, and they wanted him back. In a moment that felt less like coincidence and more like destiny, he was offered a full-time position at the very place his journey had unraveled. A full-circle second chance that no one could have scripted better.
He didn’t pause. He didn’t second-guess. He said yes, and one week later he was back where he belonged – confident, capable and unstoppable.
