T. Williams (TW) was determined to find meaningful employment and an opportunity where he could put his strengths and abilities to work. As an LRS participant, TW set out with his Job Coach to find an opportunity that was the right fit for him.
The journey included exploring different types of employment, completing applications, and preparing for interviews. TW put himself out there and participated in several interviews, but those early opportunities did not result in a job offer. While those moments could have been discouraging, TW stayed focused on what he wanted to accomplish. He continued working with his Job Coach, remained open to new possibilities, and kept moving forward.
Along the way, TW and his Job Coach continued to look for an opportunity that would allow him to build on his strengths and feel confident in his work. Their search eventually led them to a janitorial position that was a strong match for TW’s interests, abilities and employment goals. TW applied for the position and was excited to learn that he had been hired.
Since starting his new job, TW has embraced the opportunity and established himself as a dependable member of the workplace. He consistently arrives on time, performs his job responsibilities effectively and has adjusted well to his new role. He has also shared that he is very happy with his employment – a reflection of finding a position where he feels comfortable, capable, and valued.
For TW, this success represents more than receiving a job offer. It represents the result of continuing to pursue his goals, learning from each experience and not allowing setbacks to determine his outcome. His journey shows the importance of creating opportunities that recognize an individual’s strengths and abilities while providing encouragement and support along the way.
TW’s story is a reminder that the path to employment does not always happen in a straight line. Sometimes, finding the right opportunity takes time, persistence and a willingness to keep trying. For TW, that persistence opened the door to meaningful work and another important step toward greater independence and self-sufficiency.
