Last year, Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana purchased the former Lowe’s Home Improvement store located at 5770 Read Boulevard in New Orleans East. The acquisition marked the establishment of Goodwill East, a multifunctional space housing warehouse and recycling operations, an opportunity center, a retail store and Goodwill SELA’s first-ever outlet store! We wanted to let you know the ins and outs of the new outlet store (sometimes also called the bins) so you can shop ‘til you drop as soon as the doors open. Where is it? The outlet store is located inside the Goodwill East facility at 5770 Read Boulevard, New Orleans, LA 70127. When does it open? Last week, the New Orleans Saints announced their 2024 50/50 raffle initiative beneficiaries, and we are thrilled to announce Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana was chosen as the recipient for the week 15 game on December 15 versus the Washington Commanders! We're proud to be partnering with our home team, their fan base and our local community members to bring sustainable change to Southeastern Louisiana. You can begin buying 50/50 raffle tickets for the Goodwill game on December 2, or you can purchase them in-person on gameday. Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana is proud to announce receiving two significant federal grants to better support veterans and individuals transitioning from incarceration. These grants will significantly enhance Goodwill's ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive support services, training, and employment opportunities to those in need, making a profound impact on our community in all 23 parishes of our territory.   The first grant, awarded under the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP), provides $600,000 annually for three years, totaling $1.8 million. This funding will establish a brand-new program specifically designed to assist veterans who are either in temporary housing or currently experiencing homelessness. The program aims to prepare these veterans for employment and support them in gaining sustainable employment. Upskill with Goodwill: Closing the Skills Gap in IT and Healthcare Goodwill Technical College was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Bank of America Foundation for its Upskill with Goodwill program. Goodwill Technical College recognizes the importance of providing our region's workforce with access to high-quality, non-traditional training opportunities that will give them the necessary skills and certifications to access high-growth, high-wage careers. Based on regional labor market data projections from the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC), the need for workers in healthcare and information technology (IT) will continue to greatly increase through 2030. This grant will help us to close the skills gap by providing individuals with skills training for employment in allied health and IT. Post-pandemic changes in the healthcare landscape have contributed to an increased need for phlebotomists.
