Upskill with Goodwill: Closing the Skills Gap in IT and Healthcare
Goodwill Technical College was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Bank of America Foundation for its Upskill with Goodwill program. Goodwill Technical College recognizes the importance of providing our region’s workforce with access to high-quality, non-traditional training opportunities that will give them the necessary skills and certifications to access high-growth, high-wage careers. Based on regional labor market data projections from the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC), the need for workers in healthcare and information technology (IT) will continue to greatly increase through 2030. This grant will help us to close the skills gap by providing individuals with skills training for employment in allied health and IT. Post-pandemic changes in the healthcare landscape have contributed to an increased need for phlebotomists. Computer User Support has been recognized by Greater New Orleans, Inc. as an “on-ramp” job that provides a gateway to higher-wage, high demand careers in the industry. As the technology industry evolves and we continue to increase the use of technology, more people and businesses will need support to operate and maintain their networks, PCs, and associated devices. To that end, this grant will contribute to covering operational costs of training and industry certifications (Certified Phlebotomy Technician and CompTIA A+). To aid in successful completion, childcare assistance, transportation assistance, job placement assistance, and counseling services will also be provided.
